The DI Tuition Protection Plan (DITPP) is program insurance. It is recommended that all program participants purchase this insurance plan to protect your investment in the event of an emergency or unforseen event. To purchase program insurance please complete the following steps:

CAREER EXPLORATION 2010 TUITION PROTECTION PLAN 

We realize that unforeseeable events may arise that could cause you to cancel or interrupt your summer plans. As a result, Discovery Internships offers a combined pre-arrival and post-arrival Tuition Protection Plan. This is the easy, affordable way to protect your investment. Missing your summer with Discovery Internships is bad enough. Losing the money you paid for an unforgettable experience is even worse. The Discovery Internships Tuition Protection Plan (DITPP) is your ticket to worry-free travel. We highly recommend that you consider purchasing coverage, as there will be no refunds or partial-refunds after May 1st if the DITPP is not purchased.

The cost of the DITPP is 5% of the listed program fee and provides a full refund of all but $250 of your program fee through the program start date, and a pro-rated refund thereafter through the program end date. The following document constitutes an AGREEMENT by and between CAREER EXPLORATIONS, LLC, a limited liability company organized under the laws of the State of New Jersey (hereinafter referred to as "DI"), and its interns and their parents or legal guardians (hereinafter collectively referred to as "Participant"). WHEREAS, DI is conducting a summer program (hereinafter referred to as "Program"); and WHEREAS DI is providing a Tuition Protection Plan (hereinafter referred to as "Plan). The parties, intending to be legally bound hereby, and, in consideration of the mutual covenants herein contained, agree as follows:

1.        Discovery Internships Tuition Protection Plan Pre-Program Coverage: DI will refund all but $250 of Paid Program Fee if Participant is prevented from attending the Program for any of the following reasons through the program start date as specified in the program terms of agreement:

1.1           Due to Participant's, an Immediate Family Member's, or Business Partner's Sickness, Injury, or Death, that occurs before departure of the Program. The Sickness or Injury must:

1.11         In the written opinion of the treating Physician, be so disabling as to prevent Participant from attending Program.

1.2           Air Carrier delays resulting from organized labor strikes that effect public transportation;

1.3           Arrangements canceled by an airline resulting from inclement weather or organized labor strikes that affect public transportation;

1.4           Arrangements canceled by an airline, cruise line, or tour operator, resulting from Financial Insolvency;

1.5           Participant is directly involved in a documented traffic accident while en route to departure;         

1.6           Participant is hijacked, quarantined, required to serve on a jury, or required by a court order to appear as a witness in a legal action, provided Participant is not

                1.61         party to the legal action, or

                1.62         appearing as a law enforcement officer;

1.7           Participant's Home is made uninhabitable by fire, flood, volcano, earthquake, hurricane or other natural disaster;

1.8           Participant is called into active military service to provide aid or relief in the event of a natural disaster;

1.9           Participant's transfer of employment of 250 miles or more;

1.10         Participant's involuntary termination of employment or layoff which occurs more than 30 days after Participant's effective date of coverage and was not under Participant's control. Participant must have been continuously employed with the same employer for 2 years prior to the termination or layoff.

1.101       This provision is not applicable to temporary employment, independent contractors or self-employed persons.

1.11         Other events at the sole discretion of DI

 

 

2.        Discovery Internships Tuition Protection Plan Post-Arrival Coverage: DI will refund all but $250 of Paid Program Fee on a prorated basis if 1) Participant's arrival is delayed beyond the scheduled arrival date, or 2) Participant is unable to continue Program either indefinitely or for a limited amount of time for any of the following reasons between the program start date and the program end date:

2.1           Due to Participant's, an Immediate Family Member's, or Business Partner's Sickness, Injury, or death, that occurs during the Program. The Sickness or Injury must:

2.11         In the written opinion of the treating Physician, be so disabling as to prevent Participant from continuing with the Program.

2.2           Other events at the sole discretion of DI including but not limited to 1.2 through 1.11.

Calculation of prorated refund: If Participant misses any portion of the Program due to covered reasons from the program start date through the program end date, DI will calculate the prorated refund on the following basis:

2.3           Number of nights missed/30 (total number of days) * Paid Program Fee = Refund Paid

 

3.        Violation of Discovery Internships Rules

3.1           Participant has fully read and understood the DI rules and regulations, and specifically understands that any violation of the written or verbal DI rules will result in immediate expulsion from the program and early return home at the expense of Participant, without refund. Such violations are at the sole discretion of DI and include but are not limited to:

                           3.11         Consumption or possession of Alcoholic beverages, illegal substances, or drug paraphernalia

                           3.12         Possession or use of fireworks, firearms, or other weapons or explosives

                           3.13         Unauthorized departure from Emerson College after curfew

                           3.14         Violation of Any Law

                          3.15         Actions harmful to Participant's or Group's well-being or health

3.2           Participant understands and agrees that in the case of expulsion from the Program and early return home, DI will not be responsible for any associated expenses and arrangements. Participant understands and agrees that the program fee will not be refunded. Participant will be responsible for making all necessary arrangements for returning home early, such as purchasing new tickets and paying all other associated expenses. Participant understands and agrees that DI will not be able to provide any staff member to supervise or accompany Participant during his or her return home.

 

4.        Cost

4.1           The cost of the Plan is 5% of the Total Program Fee.

4.2           The cost of the Plan is non-refundable.

 

5.        Eligibility

5.1           To qualify for the Plan, Participant must check the appropriate box on their application agreeing to the terms of this document; and

5.2           The required fee, if not included at time of application, must be received within 30 days of acceptance into Discovery Internships; and

5.3           Participant must not be disabled from travel at the time the fee is paid.

 

6.        Duration of Coverage

6.1           Coverage takes effect on the date the Plan Fee accompanied by agreement of this document is received by Discovery Internships.

6.2           Coverage is terminated on the earlier of: 1) the date the Trip is completed; 2) the Scheduled Return Date; or 3) cancellation of the Program covered by the Career Exploration Tuition Protection Plan.

This agreement comprises the full and complete agreement between the Participant and DI and cannot be revised, except in writing, by DI. This agreement will come into effect when the signed agreement and fee of the Participant is received by DI, and it will be governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey. Participant shall indemnify and hold harmless DI, its successors, heirs and assignees, directors and officers from and against any and all claims, demands, losses, damages, liabilities, lawsuits and other proceedings, judgments and awards, and costs and expenses (including but not limited to reasonable attorney's fees) arising directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, out of any action done by or caused by Participant.

Definitions: "Air Carrier" - means any air conveyance operated under a license for the transportation of passengers for hire. "Business Partner" - means an individual who is involved, as a partner with Participant in a legal general partnership and shares in the management of the business. "Financial Insolvency" - means the total cessation of operations due to insolvency, with or without the filing of a bankruptcy petition, by a tour operator, cruise line or airline, provided the Financial Insolvency occurs more than 15 days following Participant's effective date of enrolling in the Plan. "Home" - means Participant's primary or secondary residence. "Immediate Family Member" Includes Participant's or Traveling Companion's spouse, child, spouse's child, son-daughter-in-law, parent(s), sibling(s), grandparent(s), grandchild(ren), step brother-sister, step-parent(s), parent(s)-in-law, brother-sister-in-law, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, guardian, Domestic Partner, foster-child, or ward. "Injury" - means bodily harm caused by an accident which: 1) occurs while you are covered by the Plan; and 2) requires examination and treatment by a Physician. "Paid Program Fee" - the Total Program Fee less any discounts or payment assistance due to early enrollment or scholarship. "Physician" means a person licensed as a medical Doctor by the jurisdiction in which he/she is resident to practice the healing arts. He/she must be practicing within the scope of his/her license for the service of treatment given and may not be Participant, a Traveling Companion, or an Immediate Family Member of Participant.  "Sickness" means an illness or disease of the body which 1) requires examination and treatment by a physician, and 2) commences while covered by the Plan "Terrorist Act" means an act of violence, other than civil disorder or riot, (that is not an act of war, declared or undeclared) that results in loss of life or major damage of property, by any person acting on behalf of or in connection with any organization which is generally recognized as having the intent to overthrow or influence the control of any government.  "Total Program Fee" - the listed price of $5795 for the Discovery Internships, LLC Program.
